Perfect balance...
Losmandy’s new Vector Balancing
System eliminates the problem inherent in all lightweight jib arms: the
arm always seeks its original balance point. For example, if the arm is
balanced horizontally, and the shot ends with the camera near the
ground,
the operator must apply force to keep the arm from rising back up to
its
original position. The Vector Balancing System removes the inertia from
the jib and transforms it into a zero-drift system, ensuring that the
arm
will always stay perfectly balanced regardless of its stopping point.
Now
the operator can make clean stops.
The Vector Balancing System now comes as standard equipment on the Porta-Jib and Porta-Jib Traveller. How to use the Vector™ Balancing System Install the Vector System on the back of the main weight shaft. Set the jib arm horizontally and balance it by loading counterweights on the two horizontal counterweight shafts, while keeping the jib arm as horizontal as possible. Fine tune the balancing with the sliding fine tuning balance weight, (standard feature on the Standard, optional on the Porta-Jib Traveler). Remove some of the weights (between a quarter and half of the total weight) from the horizontal counterweight shafts and load them on the Vector bar and secure the weights between the two collars. At this point the jib should still be balanced and stay horizontal. Tilt the jib nose down to a 45° angle. If the jib tries to move back up, move the counterweights on the vector system up. Tilt the jib nose up to a 45° angle. If the jib tries to move back down, move the counterweights on the Vector System down. All new Porta-jibs may be
ordered with the Vector Balancing System. Upgrade Kits available.
